Tumaini - a Street Child Project in Bukoba

In 2005 Svetan started support to the Tumaini Children´s Center in Bukoba, with funds from SIDA via Forum Syd. The aim of the procect is to rehabilitate street children to a normal life. This is done by giving them a place to live, possibilities to deal with their traumatic experiences and to catch up with their studies, and if possible return to their families and home villages. The children concerned are often orphaned because of AIDS - this region neighbouring Uganda is one of the hardest hit in Tanzania.

Ms Deborah Brücke with a very long record of working for the church in the area is the initiator. She has also started the NGO Bukoba-hjälpen which is helping to collect the money needed. Donations are gratefully received via the bank giro account 5405-3723.

During September 2005 Maria Jerkland Åberg and Katarina Beck-Friis visited the project and followed activities there for 10 days. There is an article in Swedish in our magazine Habari 4/2005. Below are photos from the visit.
